Filed under: About Beowulf — bobharding @ 6:20 pm

Hi all,

Tanks to Any for the feedback and to Tom for keeping me up to date with all that is happening.

I expect that I’ll be back in St Joes next year so if you see me around please come over and say hello.  It was a pleasure to work with you all – however briefly.  Good fun.

I’ll keep the blog open unti the end of term so please feel free to chip in if you want to – alternatively the project is over now and there are the holidays to look forward to … whooopppeeee.

Hopefuly I’ll see you all soon.

Adding a sound clip

Filed under: The task — bobharding @ 7:12 pm

A great question from Tom has prompted me to tell you about adding a sound clip.

Here is a quick video that should show you what to do – I expect that there will be a couple of questions that will come from you when you try this so please feel free to ask away …

You’ll need to click the file then ‘open’.  I’ve not used a service like YouTube because it might be filtered in school.

Beowulf Pictures

Filed under: About Beowulf — bobharding @ 8:56 am

I’ve collected together your pictures (well most of them) and put them together here:

I’ll tidy this up at some point and add a few more so check the comments to see if there is an update.

How to get good marks

Filed under: The task — bobharding @ 2:20 pm

This piece of work is really all about how well you work out your target audience and what decisions you take because of this.  I’m sure that Miss Briggs will tell you all about this but some ideas about the sort of thing we’d be looking for are:

level 4 – You have thought about the target audience.  Your work is mostly appropriate and you have given some reasons for your choices.  You also choose appropriate tools for the job.

Level 5 – Your have made a number of specific choices that are appropriate to your chosen audience and have explained why.  You will have used different tools for different purposes.  You evaluate your own work (and the work of others?) using a check list.

Level 6- You will have taken existing resources and adapted them so that they are more appropriate to the task and the audience.  You will consider the given check list and modify it to test your work, you make use of feedback to review and modify.

NOW .. what do you think of that!

I hope you can see why Amy’s comment about ‘how do you know your audience’ is a really good one.  This is all about understanding how to make a presentation that does what it’s supposed to – not just about using Powerpoint and Audacity etc.

(does this help?)

I’m in school on Tuesday

Filed under: Using the Blog — bobharding @ 2:04 pm

Hi all,

Some good posts at the moment – I’m impressed.  Good chat about ‘audience’.

Just a quick note to say that I’ll be  in school on Tuesday.  I should get there just before the end of lunch and will be working in DT but happy to meet any of you if you want a chat at the end of the day (won’t be possible if you have buses to catch of course).

Can you help me?

Filed under: About Beowulf — bobharding @ 6:16 pm

Hi All,

I’m going to be busy on the blog over the weekend so come back and keep checking – there wll be a competition as well as a ‘thank you’ to the person who makes the best contribution (I think Amy is possibly winning at the moment).

(Sophie here: Mr H – when is it that this compitition will come to an end? Who is winning at the moment? I was just wondering so it doesnt matter when you reply :) )

Now – what I want to know is :Have you thought about who is going to look at your story?  Can you decise or is the whole class looking at the same ‘audience’?

Add a note and let me know…

Invites have gone out

Filed under: Using the Blog — bobharding @ 7:16 pm

I’ve just been mailing invites to everyone to join in.  They should arrive in your email inbox.  If you accept them then I will be able to ‘upgrade’ you to editors then you’ll be able to create new blog entries as well as make comments on existing ones.

I’ll send out some fun stuff tomorrow (I have homework to do tonight …. ).  I’m really pleased that most of you have had a go, thank you so much.  Hopefully we can stay in touch whilst the project is running.

I’m sure I’ll be back in school again soon but I don’t have a date yet.  Always happy to help by blog though ..

How to do this …

Filed under: Using the Blog — bobharding @ 3:11 pm

Hi all and thanks to Shannon and Sophie for your comments. – and so quick ..

RIGHT – what to do next …

First of all – be safe – only put your first name or alias on the screen – never your full name

At the moment you can only comment on the articles.  You can do this by clicking on the title of the article.  If you want to be able to write your own comments then you’ll have to take aout an accoutn with WordPress (it’s free though).  Go to www.wordpress.com and create an account (good opportunity to make up a ‘beowulf’ type alias) but don’t create a blog for now (you can do this later).  Send me an email to tell me your wordpress name and I’ll include you as an author to the blog.

If this doesn’t work for you or if you have tips for others then add a comment here to help out.

More soon …  including a word from Beowulf himself – later tonight …
